I was personally invited by Yacht Club Games for the opportunity to moderate their Discord server. My main responsibilities in this role include upholding the rules and planning community events. I also manage suggestions to help improve the quality of life in the server. During the private developer streams for Mina the Hollower, I help to moderate their live chat and ensure that everyone has a fun experience.
The fan servers that I own (DiscOrder, Tenebrous Isle and Mekacity) are all listed and linked in an official "fan-communities" channel.
I am the owner of the Penny's Big Breakaway community Discord server, the central hub where fans can show their support of Evening Star's debut title! As the owner, I oversee all moderator discussions, manage the server's public image, and recruit new moderators, as well as handle the responsibilities of normal moderators, such as organising community events.
I coordinated with members from Evening Star to run a Q&A event with Sian Bialo, composer on Penny's Big Breakaway, where the community could ask him questions about his creative process on the soundtrack. The event was promoted by Evening Star, and ran very successfully. As someone who enjoys music composition, it was very insightful and inspiring to learn about how he goes from concepts to finished works, and it was interesting to hear about his industry experience and Evening Star's practices.
As of September 2023, I am the owner of the largest Shovel Knight community server on Discord, with close to 3000 members! Members of Yacht Club Games (YCG) like to drop in and participate in discussion, and we often collaborate with them to create fun community events with prizes such as plushies! We also have an official endorsement from YCG, and are partnered with their Discord server.
As the owner, my responsibilities include not only those of a regular moderator, but also overseeing all discussions between the moderators, making final decisions in scenarios where we have a split vote, managing the server's public image, recruiting new moderators, managing our sister servers (Mekacity and Tenebrous Isles), and liaising with YCG.
One event I am particularly proud of is the Tourney of Puzzlery, a speedrunning tournament for Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. Contestants from DiscOrder went head-to-head to try and complete the normal ending of the game as quickly as they could, for the grand prize of a Shovel Knight plushie! This was a lot of fun to plan and run! It was also my first experience with livestreaming and commentating a tournament using Twitch and OBS, as it was for many of the mods who I co-commentated with. It's definitely something I would like to do again!
The plushie was provided by Yacht Club Games. The link on the left links to the playlist of all the streams from the tournament.
I am the owner of the Cyber Shadow Discord server, a place where fans of the game can discuss the gameplay, story, and where the majority of discussion happened during The Search for the Final Secret. This server is also regularly used by the developer of the game and founder of Mechanical Head Studios, Aarne "MekaSkull" Hunziker! He uses this server to receive feedback about the game, and to tease his upcoming projects.
Early in the server's history, we had an exclusive Q&A event where Enrique “Pentadrangle” Martin, composer of Cyber Shadow's soundtrack, answered questions about his creative process and how he made the music for the game. This event was promoted and attended by YCG (publishers of Cyber Shadow).
This is the server where my community management journey began. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and experiences this server has given me!
I was the Health & Safety Officer for the Game Development Society. My main responsibility in this role was creating risk assessments for when the society has a social outing, and I also helped the committee plan our sessions. Occassionally, I planned and delivered lessons where I could introduce the society to a new skill. Since majority of the society was either from an art or programming background, one such lesson I did was introducing people to FamiTracker, the main program I use when I compose music.
I also helped to facilitate a partnership between the society and Mind Feast Games, where members of the society are welcome to work on a modding project for Mind Feast Games' upcoming game Co OPERATION: MultiTurn.
I was the course representative for stage two of the Computer Science (Games Development) course. In this role I take part in programme meetings to liaise between staff and students, communicating any feedback, compliments and problems students have relating to their course.
I asked students both in-person and online for their feedback relating to the course, and it became my responsibility to communicate the feedback to the staff in a professional manner.
